About BNDIY
Starting with the punk explosion of 1976, Brighton is home to a unique, thriving and diverse DIY scene.
DIY means Do It Yourself.
It's about taking care of every aspect of making and releasing music on your own through a collective of like-minded people.
From pressing your own LPs, organising tours to handing out flyers - no job is too big or too small.
In a sense, this website is a beginner's guide to Brighton's DIY music scene.
But who are the people behind the sounds? What are the stories behind the songs? What makes Brighton's scene so unique? What are the issues affecting it?
This project tries to answer those questions through long form journalism, photo essays, sessions, interviews and interactive elements.
I am a student at the University of Sussex and this website forms part of my final MA project in Multimedia Journalism.
The audio for the live sessions was recorded by Nathan Lornie. Aside from that, all the content was produced by me unless I've indicated otherwise. The views and opinions expressed on this website do not necessarily those of its editor or contributors.
